Tahanang Pambansa | Leandro Locsin

Architect Leandro Valencia Locsin was a Filipino architect, artist, and interior designer, known for his use of concrete, floating volume and simplistic design in his various projects. An avid collector, he was fond of modern painting and Chinese ceramics. Well at least these was mostly according to wikipedia. I don't know him that much but since he has been given the award the ever controversial National Artist of the Philippines in Architecture, let me and research about this Architect and his works.

His most famous design was the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP Main Building) Tahanang Pambansa or Theater of Performing Arts, and this is my first official "JKarkitekto architecturally related and not about me blog"

CCP Tahanang Pambansa (main bldg.) from http://www.culturalcenter.gov.ph/
The Cultural Center of the Philippines was created in 1966 through Executive Order no. 30, with the purpose of promoting and preserving Filipino arts and culture. It was formally inaugurated on September 8, 1969, starting a three month long inaugural festival opened by the epic musical Dularawan. Since then, the CCP has sought to truly embody its logo of katotohanan (truth), kagandahan (beauty) and kabutihan (goodness). The best artists from all over the country and around the world have graced the CCP theaters and galleries, enthralling Filipinos for over thirty years.

Ok, enough of the history, lets look at the building. That photo was so 2000 and late. Can you believe that this little structure over here has four theaters, a museum of ethnographic exhibits and a changing exhibit of Philippine art or ethnography, galleries, a library on Philippine art and culture, the administrative offices and facilities of the CCP.

Some people say that it looks like a toilet, well back in 2005, it;s toilet facilities was repaired because of 112th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was held. Of-course toilets was not the only one repaired, alot of this was refurnish life floors, air-condition system, ceiling and everything. So does it look like a toilet, I can only say that it looks like much better way back when there is no Star City near it.

see :)
here are more photos to feed your eyes from the ccp

I am really having a hard time looking for a good photo of the theater but here is what i found.
